The answer is not an eight-hour timetable. It is short, regular, parent-led home revision that protects both the learning and the holiday.

Do the holiday arithmetic honestly. Four tuition sessions at the low advertised end already rival or beat a whole month of a subscription tutor — before you count transport or the second child. Repair season (why holidays are ideal)

Term time piles new chapters on shaky ground. Holidays let you stop the conveyor and fix the missing idea from two years ago — the Grade 6 fraction skill still blocking Grade 8 maths, the Kiswahili structure that never quite landed.

Stagger the twenty minutes — one child while another finishes breakfast — and share one repair theme only if the diagnostic actually agrees. • Ordinary mid-year break: warmth + one repair strand is enough.

What “visible progress” looks like on holiday

The point of a short daily session is not a sticker chart. It is a parent who can answer, by Friday, what improved and what is still stuck — without standing over the child every evening.

A useful Friday picture names one strand, one movement, and one next step. Vague praise (“tried hard”) is not enough. Specific truth (“decimals practice up; still mixing place value”) is. That is the same habit we recommend in term time, just with more daylight and fewer homework tears.

If the weekly update is empty or fluffy for two Fridays in a row, change the plan — different subject, shorter session, or a human tutor for that strand — rather than adding an hour of open books.

And when school reopens
